Roche NimbleGen Microarrays

The CGB and Roche Nimblegen have been collaborating, scientifically and technically, since 2007. The CGB beta tests Nimblegen microarray platforms, designs specific microarray products linked to research projects in the lab, and provides feedback to Nimblegen scientists and product managers. In return, the CGB has unique expertise and access to the latest technologies at reduced pricing for IU scientists.

DNA microarray technology has revolutionized life-science research. Using arrays, researchers can examine the full complexity of a genome in a single experiment, allowing them to identify and study complex genetic regulatory networks and to begin to understand biology on a genome-wide scale. Arrays have been applied to studies in gene expression, genome mapping, SNP discrimination, transcription factor activity, toxicity, pathogen identification and detection, and many other applications.

Roche NimbleGen manufactures custom, high-density DNA arrays based on its proprietary Maskless Array Synthesizer (MAS) technology. MAS technology enables scientists to acquire and integrate complex genetic data sets not previously accessible. The combined data provide a much clearer understanding of genomics and systems biology. We refer to this enhanced picture of genetic activity as "High-Definition Genomics".

Expanding from the core microarray application, differential gene expression analysis, Roche NimbleGen has rapidly expanded high-density DNA microarray applications into diverse and rapidly growing areas of life science research including the study of human genomic DNA copy number variation, the study of transcription regulation and chromatin structure, DNA methylation analysis, DNase hypersensitivity, and rapid microbial resequencing and SNP detection.

Examples of Array-based Applications:

  • Sequence Capture - Enrich thousands of targeted loci from complex genomic DNA for high-throughput sequencing with programmable Sequence Capture microarrays.
  • Array CGH - Identify genomic insertions and deletions and copy number changes at ultra-high resolution, genome wide or focused fine tiling, with high-definition CGH.
  • ChIP-chip - Map regulatory protein binding sites genome wide for transcription factors, polymerases and histones, or target promoter regions with ChIP-chip analysis.
  • DNA Methylation - Find methylated regions genome-wide or within targeted promoters or CpG islands with NimbleGen's high-resolution DNA methylation analysis technology.
  • Gene Expression - Determine differentially expressed genes and map transcription activity with prokaryotic or eukaryotic whole-genome expression analysis.
  • Comparative Genome Sequencing - Survey microbial genomes and identify and categorize all SNPs in a single experiment with Comparative Genome Sequencing.
