About the CGB » Organization
The CGB consists of an administrative unit, Cores (Genomics,
Bioinformatics and Computing), and a set of grant-funded Projects.

Scientists in
the Core units are available for consulting and some contract work;
they also assist faculty with pilot projects that can become full
projects once some external source of funding is obtained. CGB core
scientists and project scientists leverage the various types of
expertise both within the CGB and across the IUB community to attain
their research goals.
Projects are research programs developed by CGB staff or by CGB staff in collaboration with IUB faculty. Their work is supported by extramural funds or, in some cases, by CGB seed funds or School of Informatics funds while proposals are being developed. New projects generally develop through the collaborative efforts of CGB Core units and IUB faculty.
Core units (Genomics and Bioiniformatics/Biocomputing) develop and maintain systems and hardware and are available for consulting and contract work. They develop new projects by assisting faculty with pilot experiments. The CGB Core scientists can also help faculty to identify critical expertise within the CGB and across the IU community.
Administration. The CGB is led by a director and deputy director (guided by a campus-wide advisory board) assisted by a small administrative staff.
